We run a small horse rescue in Georgia, USA. Our calling is rescuing horses that have been neglected, abused or simply discarded. Our rescues come from kill lots, or they have been abandoned in pastures, filthy stalls or paddocks without a blade of grass. In many cases they are just no longer wanted or the “newness” has worn off for the owner.
Out of the five wonderful babies we have so far, three are considered “senior” horses and came from situations where they were used until they weren’t performing up to par and then were thrown away. There is no such thing as “JUST a rescue horse” to us. Here they are special, they are majestic, they are spoiled, and they are so, SO loved.
Horses are not simply tools to be used and thrown away. Each horse has their own personality, memories, and in the case of those we are fortunate enough to rescue, their own “skeletons in the closet” that they need patience and healing to get past. Many are simply “dead horses walking”, with no light in their eyes or joy in their hearts.
We teach these wounded souls how to trust again, how to be healthy, happy horses through customized feeding programs, proper vet and farrier care, and TONS of attention, much-deserved spoiling and love. Never again will ANY of the horses that come to us feel neglect or abandonment. They are part of our family.
